STAR SIXES: MICHAEL OWEN THE HERO AS ENGLAND WIN TOURNAMENT

Michael Owen scored the winner as England twice came from behind to beat Rest of the World 3-2 in the final of the Star Sixes tournament in Glasgow.

Martin Jorgensen gave Rest of the World an early lead, but Owen levelled and Emile Heskey then hit the post.

Gaizka Mendieta smashed a corner into the net off England goalkeeper David James to make it 2-1.

Joe Cole quickly replied for England with a deflected strike and Owen then netted the winner, having earlier been involved in a clash with Jason McAteer.

England reached the final with a last-gasp victory over Republic of Ireland.

Having seen Scotland lose to Rest of the World, England needed to beat Ireland to finish second.

Paul Konchesky then fired in the winner with 30 seconds remaining to give England a 1-0 win.

Wales and Northern Ireland drew 1-1 in the fifth-place play-off and Scotland and Republic of Ireland also finished level in the third-place play-off after Niall Quinn equalised for Ireland.
